U Win Aung is one of the most prominent businessmen in Myanmar and in the Southeast Asian region as well in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS). He has been actively participating in the development of and promoting the GMS-BF since 1999 in his capacity as the then vice president of the UMFCCI from 1999 to 2011, closely cooperating with the UN-ESCAP. He was assigned chairmanship of the GMS-BF from 2003 to 2004 and again in 2012 to present. He is a member of the National Economic and Social Advisory Council (NESAC) and also a member of the National SME Development Central Committee.

He is one of the key initiators and founders of MCEA, MHA and the Myanmar Farm Crop Producers’ Association (MFCPA) and Myanmar Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association (MFVP). He had been vice chairman of the MECA and chairman of MFVP up to 2011. He has contributed to the development and strengthening of foreign relations of the UMFCCI with GMS, ACMECS and ASEAN regional chambers and trade associations in many ways, as well as in establishing close working relations with the UN-FAO and ESCAP. He is one of the members of the Business Advisory Council of the UN-ESCAP and of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ABAC). Apart from his contribution to the Myanmar private sector development and to the GMS-BF, he is well regarded as one of the most successful businessmen in Myanmar as chairman and chief executive officer of the Dagon Group of Companies, which was established in 1990.

His efforts had been recognized by Government of Myanmar and awarded him with “Wunna Kyaw Htin” Title in 2010 for his outstanding performance in civil service. Again, he was awarded with 5th class of The Order of the Union of Myanmar called “ Sithu” title in 2011 which is the highest honorary title given to civilian for the excellent services to the country.

He has awarded “Lifetime Achievement Award for Entrepreneurial & Business Leadership for the year 2013” by The World Chinese Economic Forum.
